Academic Advising
At Cal Poly Humboldt, academic advisors play a vital role in a student’s educational experience. Every student at Cal Poly Humboldt is assigned an academic advisor based on their major. A student may begin their college career with a professional academic advisor from the Academic and Career Advising Center, Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), Veterans Enrollment and Transition Services (VETS) or the Cultural Centers (CCAEs) for Academic Excellence, then transition to a major-based faculty advisor as they progress in their degree. Some majors will assign a faculty advisor throughout your time in the university but you can still access advising in ACAC, CCAEs or VETs. Academic advisors help students get the most out of college by using a holistic and justice-based developmental approach that facilitates students’ academic, professional, and personal growth. Recognizing students’ diverse identities and lived experiences to inform a strength-based approach, advisors: connect students to campus and community resources; provide information to enhance their education (e.g. study abroad, internships); support timely progress to degree with guidance on requirements; and discuss how students can integrate their education into their personal and professional goals. Students are strongly encouraged to meet with their advisor multiple times throughout the academic year to ensure both timely graduation and understanding of resources available to make the most of their time in college.

Academic & Career Advising Center
The Academic and Career Advising Center (ACAC) is an integral resource for actively engaging students in exploring and achieving their academic and career aspirations. ACAC helps students reach their academic and career potential through individualized and culturally responsive services and resources. ACAC honors students’ identities and lived experience and guides them to: EXPLORE and choose academic majors and career options; obtain and reflect upon academic and career-related EXPERIENCE; and develop, pursue, and ACHIEVE meaningful educational plans in pursuit of life goals. Students are encouraged to visit ACAC for academic planning and success strategies, undeclared student resources, major and career exploration, job and internship search, résumé development, and guidance for applying to graduate school. ACAC staff is committed, both personally and professionally, to infusing justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion into their work and supports students through close partnerships with departments such as the Center for Community Based Learning (CCBL), the Cultural Centers for Academic Excellence, Retention through Academic Mentoring Program (RAMP), Educational Opportunity Program (EOP), and the Learning Center. ACAC helps students as they work to succeed in their present goals and plan for life beyond college.

Indian Tribal and Educational Personnel Program (ITEPP)
ITEPP, established in 1969, provides academic advising, co-curricular programming, educational planning, and academic support focused on Indigenous methods of learning and community accountability. ITEPP provides Native students with a sense of belonging centered around cultural values, beliefs, and traditions that assist students in navigating higher education with confidence, which builds self-efficacy. Students receive valuable leadership skills, access to scholarships & internship opportunities, connection to local tribes, agencies, and resources. To sum it up, participants will find a “home away from home” atmosphere at the ITEPP house, nurtured by caring staff. Umoja Center for Pan African Student Excellence
The Center is a Pan African cultural community of students who self identify with any the diverse identities represented within the African diaspora. We are part of an effort to elevate the level of African diasporic knowledge. The Indian Natural Resources, Science & Engineering Program + Diversity in STEM (INRSEP+) provides academic and research support to students from groups historically underrepresented in science, technology, engineering and mathematics fields with an enhanced focus on American Indian students. Community Service
Center for Community Based Learning
The Center for Community Based Learning (CCBL) is the campus hub for service learning and internship courses that apply classroom learning to address community needs. CCBL supports the students and faculty involved in these courses, while coordinating hundreds of approved community learning sites, many of which are located right here in Humboldt County. Youth Educational Services (YES)
YES offers leadership and volunteer opportunities through student-directed programs addressing social issues and under-met needs in the community. These programs engage with children, youth, seniors, LGBTQIA+ and marginalized cultural communities, families experiencing homelessness and the environment. Educational Opportunity Program (EOP) & Student Support Services
The Educational Opportunity Program and Student Support Services provide admissions assistance and academic support for low-income and first-generation college students. The program is designed to improve access and retention of historically low-income and educationally disadvantaged students.
Once admitted into the EOP or Student Support Services program, students receive academic and financial aid advising, tutoring, learning skills assistance, mentoring, and participate in academic enrichment activities designed to enhance academic success.

The Cal Poly Humboldt Library offers a welcoming and creative learning environment for our diverse population of students. Veterans Enrollment and Transition Services (VETS)
VETS serves to promote and support the academic success and career goals of our military-connected students. VETS processes enrollment certifications for federal VA education benefits, processes the California Department of Veterans Affairs fee waiver award letter, provides information about education benefits for veterans and family members, tutoring services, military credit evaluation, the VA work-study program, and much more. We provide programming aimed at supporting our students’ transition from the military to academia.
