Analyze multi-ethnic U.S. poetry, fiction, drama, essay and autobiography from slave narratives to the present. Discuss literary texts in social, political and historical contexts, including formations of individual and national identity, definitions of “American” and “citizen”, and constructions of race, gender, genre, family, borders, war, art, and resistance.
