History, Education Concentration, B.A.

The History Education concentration is certified by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CCTC) as a Subject Matter Program for Secondary Education Social Sciences. Students who successfully complete this concentration will have demonstrated subject matter competency in the Social Sciences and therefore will not be required to take the California Subject Exam for Teachers (CSET) for Social Science. The History Education concentration prepares students to enter a Single Subject Secondary Education Credential program after they graduate with their B.A. degree.

Requirements for the Bachelor’s Degree


A bachelor’s degree requires a total of 120 units. Students must fulfill General Education & All-University Requirements , residency, unit, and GPA requirements as outlined in the Bachelor’s Degree Requirements . This major includes a Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR) certified course.

Requirements for the Major (52 Units)


Students must complete all major courses with a grade of C- or better.



Core Courses (28 Units)


The following core courses are required for all majors.

History Areas


Students must successfully complete HIST 210  before enrolling in history area courses.
