Business Administration, Economics Concentration, B.S.

The Business Administration major with a concentration in Economics provides the basic analytical foundations of how business firms operate and maximize their overall goals of profits and sustainability. Topics include consumer behavior, efficiency of firms, labor market policies, different market structures, effective use of resources and global competition. The impact of different types of government policies are analyzed in a broad context. The Economics concentration provides strong analytical skills that facilitate higher level critical thinking.

Our faculty are committed to providing students with opportunities for hands-on learning and collaborative, team-oriented projects. Business students apply a wide-range of technical skills, including projects that develop their information research capability. Acquisition, analysis, and presentation of all types of data are skills emphasized in our program. Business majors can participate in student club activities, in community internships, and other special events that provide professional and practical opportunities.

Note: Students seeking a baccalaureate in business administration with a concentration in economics may not also receive a minor in economics.

High school students should follow preparation requirements for the CSU system. Community college students should take approved substitutes for lower division core courses. Community college courses may not be transferred to fulfill upper division core or concentration requirements. Consult your community college advisor or contact the School of Business if you have questions about transfer credit for business courses.  

Requirements for the Bachelor’s Degree


A bachelor’s degree requires a total of 120 units. Students must fulfill General Education & All-University Requirements , residency, unit, and GPA requirements as outlined in the Bachelor’s Degree Requirements . This major includes a Graduation Writing Assessment Requirement (GWAR) certified course.

Requirements for the Major (64 Units)


The Business Administration major with a concentration in Economics includes 39 units of core courses and 23 units of concentration specific courses. Students must earn a minimum grade of C- in all required courses.



 

Concentration Courses (23 Units)


Complete the following concentration specific coursework to fulfill the requirements of the major. Check with the department office or with an advisor regarding the availability of concentration courses

Elective Requirement


Complete one economics (ECON) course plus additional depth for a total of 4 units. Select courses in consultation with an advisor.
