Astronomy Minor

The Astronomy Minor is designed for students interested in the cosmos. It has an algebra based track and a calculus based track depending on students’ majors, math preparation and interests.

Requirements for the Minor (21-32 Units)

A minimum grade of C- is required for all courses with the “PHYX” prefix for the physics minor.

Complete one of the following math and physics series of courses.

MATH 101T - Trigonometry Units: 3 or
MATH 102 - Algebra and Elementary Functions Units: 4
PHYX 104 - Descriptive Astronomy Units: 4
PHYX 106 - College Physics: Mechanics and Heat Units: 4
PHYX 107 - College Physics: Electromagnetism and Modern Physics Units: 4
OR
MATH 109 - Calculus I Units: 4 ^[1]
MATH 110 - Calculus II Units: 4
MATH 210 - Calculus III Units: 4
PHYX 109 - General Physics A: Mechanics Units: 4
PHYX 210 - General Physics B: Thermodynamics, Waves and Optics Units: 4
PHYX 211 - General Physics C: Electricity, Magnetism Units: 4
^[1]The MATH 109B & MATH 109C Calculus series may be taken in place of MATH 109.

Upper Division Electives

Complete two of the following courses.
