This interdisciplinary program helps students who wish to act as advocates for issues they care about. These concerns might include advocating for social justice, protection of the environment, educational reform, consumer education, or nonprofit work leadership.
The program provides opportunities to learn how various disciplines view advocacy and the ethics of advocating how to disseminate information about an issue effectively and how to communicate social change ethically.
Students are encouraged to choose electives that complement their major or that extend their capacities. The culminating experience guides students to apply what they have learned to operationalize their skills through enacted practice.
Students develop both verbal and written skills in order to influence individuals and audiences, to become more aware of their own advocacy skills, and to develop a toolkit for enacting change in the world.
Other classes can be used for the elective section upon consultation with your Social Advocacy minor advisor.
