5B: Biological Science

The following courses fulfill both the (5B) Biological Science and (5C) Laboratory activity requirements, with the exception of BIOL 102. BIOL102 and BIOL 102L must be taken to fulfill both requirements.

• BIOL 105 - Principles of Biology Units: 4
• BOT 105 - General Botany Units: 4
• SOIL 104 - Introduction to Sustainable Agriculture Units: 3

  The following course is not intended for most science/natural resource majors.

• ANTH 103 - Biological Anthropology Units: 3

• (Enroll in ANTH 103L  to fulfill the Laboratory requirement)

• BIOL 102 - Human Biology Units: 3 (Enroll in BIOL 102L  to fulfill the Laboratory requirement)

GE Notes

GE requirements cannot be waived and other Cal Poly Humboldt courses cannot be substituted for approved GE courses. To fulfill a particular requirement, a course must be completed during the academic year in which the GE status is designated in the catalog. Courses that meet outcomes of more than one GE area 1-6, may only be used to satisfy one of those areas.

Goals

Area 5: Life and Biological Sciences: These courses will guide students to accomplish the following content criteria:

1. develop knowledge of scientific theories, concepts, and data about physical and biological aspects of the world (5A shall focus on physical systems, 5B shall focus on biological systems, and 5C either or both); 
2. achieve an understanding and appreciation of scientific principles and the scientific method; and 
3. achieve an understanding and appreciation of the potential limits of scientific endeavors and the value systems and ethics associated with human inquiry.
