The Geography B.A. program at Cal Poly Humboldt provides a comprehensive and interdisciplinary education that equips students to understand the complexities of our world. This program empowers students to address contemporary global challenges such as climate change, migration, urbanization, and social inequality by developing critical thinking, spatial analysis, and technical skills. With a focus on both human and physical geography, students learn to analyze and interpret the spatial relationships that shape our environment.
Key Features
-
Interdisciplinary Learning: The program draws on diverse fields, including Earth systems science, political economies, critical environments, and geospatial representations. This interdisciplinary approach ensures students understand the natural and human-made factors that shape both local and global environments.
-
Spatial Thinking and Problem Solving: Central to the program is spatial analysis. Students develop the ability to understand how places are interconnected, how geographic patterns emerge, and how geographic tools can be applied to solve real-world problems.
-
Global and Local Focus: The curriculum offers a well-rounded perspective, examining both global trends and regional differences. Students explore key issues facing societies worldwide, from international relations to environmental sustainability.
-
Real-World Applications: Through case studies, research projects, and hands-on field experiences, students apply their geographic knowledge to real-world problems. Graduates emerge with a strong foundation in geographic research, data analysis, and problem-solving - skills that are highly valued in today’s job market.
