Teaching English as a Second/Foreign Language Minor

This coursework develops and refines skills necessary in teaching English as a second / foreign language (in the US, foreign schools, and language institutes).

Take high school or community college courses in English, languages other than English, and ethnic studies.

Requirements for the Minor (20 units)

Complete one course.

ENGL 225 - Introduction to Language Analysis Units: 4
ENGL 326 - Language Study for Teachers Units: 4
ENGL 328 - Structure of American English Units: 4

Language Requirement

Complete 6 semester units of a language other than English taken at the university level or at an intensive language program.

Upper Division Required Courses

Complete all the following courses.

ENGL 417 - Second Language Acquisition Units: 3
ENGL 435 - Introduction to English as a Second/ Foreign Language Units: 4
ENGL 436 - Integrating Language & Content in English Instruction Units: 3
