History Minor

If you think history is simply a record of names and dates, think again. Historians examine the complex ideas behind events of the past to help us understand the present and chart a more successful future. In a dynamic and ever-changing world, they are our modern-day guides.

At Cal Poly Humboldt, we prepare our students with all the tools of the historian: critical thinking, high-tech research, project development, and excellent writing and presentation skills. Many of our students want to attend graduate school. Others know they want to teach or write.

Requirements for the Minor (22 Units)

Students must complete courses for the minor with a grade of C- or better.

HIST 210 - Historical Methods Units: 4
HIST 209 - Critical History: Theory and Historiography Units: 3

Lower Division Electives

HIST 104 - Western Civilization to 1650 Units: 3
HIST 105 - Western Civilization, 1650 to Present Units: 3
HIST 106B - Islamic Societies: The Making of the Muslim Middle East Units: 3
HIST 107 - East Asian History to 1644 Units: 3
HIST 108 - East Asian Civilization Since 1644 Units: 3
HIST 109 - Colonial Latin American History Units: 3
HIST 109B - Modern Latin America Units: 3
HIST 200 - World Cultures and History: Prehistory to 1500 CE Units: 3
HIST 201 - World Cultures and History: 1500 CE to the Present Units: 3

Upper Division (12 Units)

Complete 12 units of HIST 300-393 courses, at least 4 units of which must come from a course with an “R” course taken concurrently.
