Recommended for first year. Must be completed before earning 60 units. (Students who transfer in with more than 30 units must complete these before they complete 30 units at Cal Poly Humboldt.) A minimum grade of C- is required in each course.

ENGL 102 - Stretch Composition and Rhetoric A Units: 3 and
ENGL 103 - Stretch Composition and Rhetoric B Units: 3 (complete both courses to meet requirement)
ENGL 104 - Composition and Rhetoric Units: 3
ENGL 104S - Accelerated Composition and Rhetoric - Service Learning Units: 3

Goals

Area 1 Speech and Written Communication courses develop knowledge and understanding of the form, content, context, and effectiveness of communication. Students work to:

examine communication from the rhetorical perspective;
practice reasoning, advocacy, organization, and accuracy; and
enhance their skills and abilities in the discovery, critical evaluation, and reporting of information.
