Lower Division GE Area B: Life Sciences

Courses

The following courses fulfill both the (B2) life science and (B3) science laboratory activity requirements, with the exception of BIOL 102. BIOL102 and BIOL 102L must be taken to fulfill both requirements.

• BIOL 105 - Principles of Biology Units: 4
• BOT 105 - General Botany Units: 4
• SOIL 104 - Introduction to Sustainable Agriculture Units: 3

• ANTH 103 - Biological Anthropology Units: 3

  The following courses are not intended for science or natural resource majors, with the exception of chemistry and physics.

• BIOL 102 - Human Biology Units: 3 (Enroll in BIOL 102L  to fulfill the science lab requirement)
• BIOL 104 - General Biology Units: 3

GE Area B Notes:

Where courses exceed 3 units, only 3 units count towards GE requirements.

GE requirements cannot be waived and other Cal Poly Humboldt courses cannot be substituted for approved GE courses. To fulfill a particular requirement, a course must be completed during the academic year in which the GE status is designated in the catalog. Courses that meet outcomes of more than one GE area A-F, may only be used to satisfy one of those areas.

Goals

Upon completing this requirement, students will be able to:

• apply scientific concepts and theories to develop scientific explanations of natural phenomena
• critically evaluate conclusions drawn from a particular set of observations or experiments
• demonstrate their understanding of the science field under study through proper use of the technical/scientific language, and the development, interpretation, and application of concepts.
