Major Academic Plans


Major Academic Plans (or MAPS) show courses you might take each semester to meet your degree requirements. Students at Cal Poly Humboldt follow many different paths to graduation. Your educational and career goals, as well as personal interests all contribute to determining the courses you take. We encourage you to discuss course options with an advisor.

Build your personalized plan in DARS plans using the MAP as a resource. Meet with your advisor each semester to assist in planning and to review your progress. 

Set yourself up for academic success in historically difficult classes. Add a 1-unit Supplemental Instruction (SI) session to one or more of your classes. SI sessions are linked with specific classes.

Year 1


You need to earn a C- or higher in Lower Division GE Area A and Lower Division GE Area B: Math courses. These four courses must be completed by the time you have earned 60 units. Credit earned for math support course (MATH 3) will not count toward GE, major or graduation units.

Semester 1 (15-17 Units)


[1] Credit earned for math support course (MATH 3) does not count toward GE, major or graduation units.

Semester 2 (15-16 Units)


No more than 3 units of COMM 110 and COMM 310 may be used to fulfill the Public Communication Skills requirement. 

[2] (If ENGL 104 was taken last semester take an elective. other GE or major course in place of ENGL 103
